Evan: Knicks miracle 'a fart in the wind' if they don't finish off series
The Knicks pulled off a miracle against the 76ers in game two, erasing a five-point deficit with less than 30 seconds to go to send Madison Square Garden into a frenzy on Monday night.
Having taken the day to assess the historical impact of the Knicks victory, Evan says it is likely the most memorable win the franchise has had for an entire generation of fans.
"If you are 35 and under and sick of hearing about the LJ 4-point play and the 90s Knicks, you've got your moment now," Evan said. "You have something you will remember for the rest of your life.
"Last night in New York sports was one of those nights that will live forever…What happened in the last 27 seconds of that game…if you look at all of the things that had to happen for the Knicks to win this game, it truly is one of the most miraculous 30 seconds you will ever see. That's one of those sequences that you're never gonna forget."
Having said that, Evan warns Knicks fans that Monday's miracle at The Garden will lose all of its meaning unless New York finishes the job and wins the series.
"They better win this series," Evan said. "There have been great moments in New York sports…and then if you lose, they become footnotes. They don't matter anymore. Endy Chavez's catch against the Cardinals in game seven. Kevin Durant in game five against the Bucks, their last postseason win. You know why that crap doesn't matter? Because they didn't win the series.
"For this to truly be, for the younger Knick fan, your Larry Johnson 4-point play moment, you have to seal the deal…do you think for a second, if Indiana wins that series, anybody gives a rat's ass about an LJ 4-point play? Absolutely not. The only way it matters and lives in history…you have to win the series. Otherwise it's a fart in the wind."
