The surging Knicks are still searching for a long-term solution at point guard, but the team made a splash by adding one of the most coveted free agent point guards this summer.
ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski reports that New York has signed Argentinian guard Luca Vildoza of the Spanish ACB League to a four-year, $13.6 million deal. Vildoza will fly to New York once he clears the immigration process, but there is no clear timetable on his arrival for this season.
Vildoza, considered one of the best in Europe, is 25 years old and had recently agreed to a buyout with his team, Baskonia. He stands at 6-foot-3 and was the MVP of last year's Spanish ACB Finals when he lead Baskonia to a title.
Vildoza also plays for Argentina's national team.
The deal includes three non-guaranteed years, meaning the Knicks will be able to evaluate Vildoza over the summer in the Olympics, summer league and training camp before deciding if he is a long-term solution.
Vildoza declared for the NBA Draft in 2017 but went undrafted, though he still carried hype, receiving rave reviews from Kobe Bryant. He shot 39 percent from beyond the arc in the Euroleague this season, and the Knicks hope he can be more than a final roster spot.
