Alec Burks drawing trade interest from 'several teams,' including Celtics: Report

The Knicks currently don’t have the cap space to make the kind of offer they would need to bring Jalen Brunson to New York, but they reportedly are still working to clear up more space.

After HoopsHype reported the Knicks discussing a Nerlens Noel trade with the Clippers, SNY’s Ian Begley reports that Alec Burks could be another candidate to be dealt, and if he is, the Celtics and “several” other teams have a “degree of interest” in trading for the veteran.

Dealing away Burks or Noel, while not taking on any additional salary, would get New York’s cap space to nearly $25 million. The team shed Kemba Walker’s salary on draft night, and will continue to work towards freeing up more space in their quest to lure Brunson to Madison Square Garden.

Burks signed a three-year, $30 million deal last offseason after he played a key role in the Knicks’ run to the playoffs, but he took a slight step back last year. Tasked with taking on a regular point guard role due to injuries to Derrick Rose and Walker, Burks saw his field goal percentage drop from 42 to 39 percent, and he averaged 11.7 points per game.
