Kristaps Porzingis made NBA history at the expense of the Knicks on opening night, scoring the most points in a debut game against a team that drafted him.

Porzingis, making his first-ever appearance with the Celtics, dropped 30 points, grabbed eight rebounds, and blocked four shots in Boston’s win over New York at Madison Square Garden, his former home that he still looks back on with fondness, despite the loud boos he heard throughout the night.

“I think it was the way that exit happened,” Porzingis said after the game. “I think it was that, and of course, if you’re not with New York, you’re the enemy. I understand that part completely. I miss this place and I wish nothing but the best for this organization.

“Honestly, it’s an awesome feeling to come back now, being a Celtic and playing here. Even getting booed and getting all that, it's still cool. I really like that and enjoy that.”

Porzingis’ 30 points were the most in a debut in Celtics history, and shot 53 percent from the field, all while “F--- Porzingis” chants rained down from the Garden stands. That clearly didn’t bother Porzingis, who dropped 15 points in the first quarter. In fact, he enjoyed it, and the reaction from the crowd won’t take away the fond memories he has of calling New York home.

“Most importantly, we won the game,” Porzingis said. “I’m very excited of what we have ahead of us. I wish the Knicks, the organization, and this city nothing but the best.”
