The Frank Ntilikina era is officially over in New York, as the Mavericks announced the signing of the former Knicks point guard on Thursday night.
Ntilikina, a former eighth overall pick, one of the last moves of the Phil Jackson era, represented one of the more divisive players among New York’s fanbase, with many clamoring for the defensive-minded guard to see more minutes off the bench, while others wanted to see him off the roster long before the Knicks didn’t extend him a qualifying offer this summer.

While a qualifying offer wasn’t extended before the Aug. 1 deadline, the Knicks still could have re-signed him, as he was an unrestricted free agent.
The 23-year-old made just 55 starts for the Knicks since being drafted in 2017, averaging 5.5 points, 2.0 rebounds and 2.7 assists in 211 career games.
Ntilikina will team up with former teammates Kristaps Porzingis, Tim Hardaway Jr., Trey Burke and Reggie Bullock in Dallas, all of whom played with Ntilikina in New York.
