Mitchell Robinson must have seen one too many critiques about his free throw shooting on social media after the Knicks dropped game three, because on Sunday, the veteran center took to Instagram to clap back at those who have something to say about his struggles at the charity stripe.
“I know y’all commenting and doing all that stupid stuff thinking I really care. I really don’t,” Robinson said in a video of himself in what appeared to be his driveway. “Y’all know what I care about: This motherf---- [pointing to his truck], playing basketball, and my daughter. All the other stuff, I really don’t care for.
“Y’all should know me by now. Been here seven years.
Anyway, Happy Mother’s Day!”
If Robinson’s video was in response to criticism he has heard about his free throw struggles, it likely wasn’t from the majority of the Knicks fanbase, as the Madison Square Garden crowd cheered him on every time he was at the foul line on Saturday, as the Celtics and Joe Mazzulla continued to deploy the “Hack-a-Mitch” strategy. Fans stood to try and help Robinson to sink his free throws, and erupted in applause any time one went down.
But other NBA fans trolled Robinson after some of his misses, particularly the two airballs he has thrown up so far this series. In three games so far this series, Robinson has made just seven of 23 free throw attempts, and is shooting a lowly 34.2 percent from the foul line for his playoff career.
Despite his free throw struggles, Robinson was a force for the Knicks during their two wins in Boston, and even after Saturday’s blowout loss, he is still a +29 in the series so far.
