Nick Nurse insists he tried to call timeout on fateful game two possession, but did he?

The Knicks pulled off one of their most memorable playoff possessions of the last quarter century on Monday night, stealing a Sixers inbounds pass after a Jalen Brunson 3-pointer to set up a game-winning triple from Donte DiVincenzo in a thrilling game two win.

But 76ers head coach Nick Nurse insists it should have never happened, as he sounded off after the loss, telling reporters that he should have been given a timeout multiple times during the inbounds play.

"Obviously they score, we take a look at getting it in quick, we don't get it in quick," Nurse said. "I call timeout. Referee looked right at me, ignored me. Ball went into Tyrese [Maxey], I called timeout again, and then the melee started. I guess I gotta run out onto the floor or do something to get his attention.

"Needed a timeout there to advance it. Would have been good. But couldn't get it."

But did Nurse call a timeout? As noted by Rob Perez on X (formerly known as Twitter) and several other NBA fans on social media, Nurse puts his hands up as if it prepare to potentially call for a timeout, but never completes the gesture as Kyle Lowry tries to get the inbounds pass to Maxey. Once Maxey's hands touch the ball, Nurse clearly brings his arms back down, believing his team may have gotten the ball in successfully. But once Maxey loses control and falls to the ground, then Nurse calls emphatically for a timeout, but the ball was loose on the floor next to Maxey, before being snatched away by Josh Hart.

Despite the video evidence, Nurse insisted that he had watched the replay himself, and still believed he should have been granted a timeout.

"I just watched the film, just to make sure. I'm clearly calling timeout," Nurse said. "I didn't see if he looked at me in the film, but I can clearly see me calling timeout, twice."

Nurse's star center Joel Embiid took his side as well, and says others were trying to call a timeout before game two was snatched from them in devastating fashion.

"Everybody on the floor was trying to call a timeout, myself included," Embiid said. "Coach on the sideline, but they didn't give it to us."
