The Grimes brothers nearly had themselves an unforgettable Sunday, but the day still served as a fairly amazing revelation for the family.
Knicks rookie Quentin Grimes was unable to play in the Knicks' matinee against the 76ers on Sunday after he injured his knee against the Heat two nights before, but his brother Tyler Myers took the ice in that same arena hours later when the Canucks visited the Rangers, and Myers found the back of the net with their mother, Tonja Stelly, in attendance for both games.
"I was looking forward to my son playing this afternoon and my son playing hockey at night," Stelly told Marc Berman of the New York Post. "But unfortunately there were other plans in place."
Tonja and Tyler were both at the Knicks game on Friday, but unfortunately, they were only able to watch Grimes for a total of 14 seconds before he suffered a subluxation of his right patella and was carried into the locker room. But it was still a chance for Tonja to catch a glimpse of her son on The Garden floor before seeing her other son on The Garden ice less than 48 hours later.
Tyler has been in the NHL for 13 seasons, and is 10 years older than the rookie Grimes. The two grew up in different countries (Grimes in Houston, Texas and Tyler in Calgary), but they shared a special bond on Sunday, another landmark for the only siblings to play in the NBA in NHL. It didn't go exactly as planned, but it was still memorable.
