Another Knicks contributor from last season is returning to the Knicks, as Ian Begley of SNY reports that Taj Gibson is returning to New York on a one-year deal.

The deal for the 36-year-old is worth $2.7 million, per Begley.

Gibson was a valuable piece for the Knicks this season, filling in nicely for the injured Mitchell Robinson and then for Nerlens Noel when he was hampered with injury during the postseason.

Gibson, more than comfortable with the Knicks and head coach Tom Thibodeau due to the duo’s roots with the Bulls, made three starts last season but appeared in 45 total games, shooting 62.7 percent from the field while averaging 5.4 points, 5.6 rebounds and 1.1 blocks per game in an average of 20.8 minutes per contest.

New York was expected to have roughly $8.8 million in cap space prior to the Gibson signing.

With Gibson back in the fold, the team has returned free agents Alec Burks and Derrick Rose in addition to Gibson, and will bring back a very similar roster to last year’s team, while replacing Reggie Bullock with Evan Fournier.
