The Knicks, trying to stop their current freefall, will likely be without their best player on Thursday night against the powerful Warriors.
RJ Barrett, after limping off the court in the final seconds of the fourth quarter with the Knicks down 17 on Tuesday night, is doubtful for Thursday's game against Golden State with a sprained ankle. Head coach Tom Thibodeau told reporters after Tuesday's loss that he wanted to leave the starters in because New York had cut the deficit to 13 and wanted to try and mount a comeback, but Barrett was still on the floor well after the comeback had clearly fallen short.
Barrett, averaging a career-high 18 points per game, has been surging since the calendar flipped to 2022, averaging 22.5 points per game while shooting 40 percent from downtown. In his last four games, he is averaging 25 points per game.
