After the surgery news for OG Anunoby preceded a lopsided loss to the Mavericks, Sal thinks the Knicks craze may be getting a little out of control.

“This team can’t win a championship,” Sal said. “They’re not good enough…If everything goes right, they can win the East…they should be amongst the favorites to get to the Eastern Conference Final. But they can’t win a championship. They’re not good enough.

“We gotta be realistic to an extent. They’re not a championship team yet.”

BT pushed back on that take strongly, as did callers immediately in response to Sal cooling down the Knicks hype. That set Sal off, the idea that calling a Knicks team not championship caliber is suddenly sacrilege.

“I’m sorry, something they haven’t done since 1973, all of a sudden they show some semblance of a team that might, might be able to make it back to the Finals for the first time since 1999, and all of a sudden, I’m the idiot because I’m saying I don’t think they’re gonna win a championship!” Sal said. “This is New York. Sack up. Toughen up. Face a little reality here, for goodness sake.

“It’s getting out of control!”
