Sal: Mikal Bridges fits Knicks better than Devin Booker, Kevin Durant, or LeBron James
Sal was in good spirits to start Wednesday's show, as the Mets clobbered Gerrit Cole and the Yankees in the Subway Series opener, and the Knicks made a major splash by acquiring Mikal Bridges from the rival Nets.
For Sal, getting the formidable wing from Brooklyn, another Villanova product, is better than any of the potential blockbuster deals the Knicks have been tied to in recent years.
"I think he's the perfect fit. I think he's the guy," Sal said. "I didn't believe the Nets would trade Bridges to the Knicks! And they did! The picks? See ya! They mean nothing. The Knicks still have plenty of draft picks.
"This is exactly what the Knicks needed to do. He might not be an All-Star, but he'll be a star on this team. He's exactly what this team needs."
The Knicks see Bridges as that seamless fit who will help take on the Celtics and their formidable scorers in Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown, and Sal believes New York is finally a legit title contender.
"This fits the Knicks better than Booker, better than Durant, better than LeBron," Sal said. "To me, they gave up nothing and got a perfect fit for this team."
