The Knicks dropped their fifth game in a row on Thursday night, this time falling to the lowly Spurs with a less-than-desirable defensive effort across the board.
The team's eight-game winning streak seems like a long time ago, and Sal Licata believes that the team losing five in a row is a more accurate depiction of where this team really is.
"Here's the thing with the Knicks that I've been noticing: they suck," Sal said. "The inconsistency drives me up a wall. They win eight in a row, they lose five in a row. I don't care that Brunson and Barrett are out.
"They lose to the 12-23 Spurs??"
For Sal, Thursday's defensive effort was all the evidence he needed to know that this team simply isn't very good, and is far from what they were two years ago, when there seemed to be plenty of hope on the horizon.
"They should be about defense," Sal said. "That's what I loved about them two years ago when they were good. They were consistent every single night. No matter who was playing, the effort was there."
