Tierney: Julius Randle ran from leadership responsibility, believes Knicks will trade him

Brandon Tierney declared last month that Julius Randle needs to go, that the former All-Star needs to leave the City that embraced him as a savior less than a year ago.

Now, with the trade deadline less than a week away, he isn't changing his mind, even if Randle helps the Knicks rattle off some wins between now and the deadline.

"I can't go back," Tierney said on Friday's show. "I'm done. I'm not trying to make it personal, I'm not trying to sound tough, but I'm done. That's it. I will never trust him.

"I will never trust him to be the leader and the player that I thought he had a chance to be."

Randle is reportedly available "for the right price," after New York priced him at $117 million in the form of a contract extension this past offseason. But since then, Randle has plummeted statistically, has been criticized for leaving Obi Toppin hanging after falling to the ground, and gave the home fans a thumbs down shortly after he and the team were booed before a furious rally against the Celtics.

For Tierney, once Randle started shying away from his role as the team leader, whether it be through not being available to the media or saying "shut the f--k up" as his explanation for the thumbs down, that was the end of his time as the once hopeful savior of a long-suffering franchise.

"I was always convinced he would be more of a leader than a 1A," Tierney said. "I knew the Knicks would never win a championship if he was the best player on the team…but when you run from your leadership responsibilities, which he did, not talking to the media, not helping guys up, that's a bad look, man."

One that Tierney believes should be the nail in Randle's Knicks coffin, and he is confident that his tenure in New York is near an end.

"Leon Rose needs to do his job, and I believe he will," Tierney said. "I believe he will get this aspect done."
