Tierney rips Julius Randle for calling out Knicks defense: 'The same 'leader' who didn't want to talk to the media'

Julius Randle called out the Knicks defensive effort after Wednesday's second-half collapse against the 76ers, and Tierney can't help but laugh.

"This is coming from the same guy…the same guy who skipped out on his media requirements for eight or nine games," Tierney said during Thursday's show. "The same 'leader' who didn't want to talk to the media, who was hiding basically, who's been loafing up and down the court all season and treating defense as optional…now wants to be a leader? I find that hysterical."

Randle has received widespread criticism for his effort level at times throughout the season, and while he has picked up his production over the last month, Tierney is not ready to give him a pass, not while the Knicks continue to look dreadful on both ends of the floor, and appear to be going nowhere with just 20 games to go in the season.

"Here's the kicker: it's March," Tierney said. "The season ends on April 10. Hey Julius, why don't you wait until April 9 to send a message to your teammates? Talk about funny. Is this guy kidding me?"

Both Tierney and Tiki agree that while Randle has appeared to try and take back a leadership role, the ship has sailed, and too much damage was done earlier in the season.

"We know who he is," Tiki said. "We've seen it too many times to say that this is an anomaly…this is Julius Randle. This is who he is."
