Tiki: Tom Thibodeau has to be better at protecting his stars from themselves

Jalen Brunson rolled his ankle midway through the fourth quarter of a game that the Knicks had once been leading by 30.

This comes weeks after Julius Randle went down with a separated shoulder in the closing minutes of a game that the Knicks seemed to have well in hand over the Heat.

But Tom Thibodeau has stressed that no leads are safe in today's NBA, and pulling his starters is a matter of getting a feel for the game.

Tiki says that has become a problem, and the head coach needs to start protecting his stars from themselves.

"Tom Thibodeau, who is stuck in his ways of 'I'm only gonna play these seven guys, and I'm gonna play them 43 minutes a night,'" Tiki said. "I blame Tom Thibodeau for not doing what every other coach in the NBA does, which is help your stars be at your best for most of the season. He grinds these dudes."

Evan isn't blaming Thibodeau for Tuesday's injury to Brunson, but Tiki says the head coach has to do a better job at seeing the big picture.

"Maybe Julius Randle wants to grind. Maybe Jalen Brunson wants to grind," Tiki said. "But sometimes, you have to protect those guys, your star…from themselves. That's what I blame him for, not protecting his best players from themselves. It's frustrating."
