The Knicks are the hottest team in the Eastern Conference, winning their sixth straight game after destroying the Bulls in Chicago on Friday night.
But Tom Thibodeau isn't interested in talking about any streak, or anything the Knicks have done in terms of recent success.
"I'm not taking the cheese," Thibodeau said when asked about the team's current surge.
Sure, New York has won six in a row and now sit just 1.5 games back of the fourth seed in the conference, and just 2.5 games back of the third seed, but Thibodeau knows once the team stops and reflects on where they stand, they open themselves up to risk of falling right back down.
"This game will have nothing to do with Sunday's game," Thibodeau said.
"So the important thing for us is not to feel too good about ourselves. Enjoy the win, then tomorrow, we have to start getting ready."
Still, for Knicks fans, it's hard not to bask in the longest winning streak in the conference, and to look ahead at what could still be to come. The .500 Pacers await on Sunday, followed by a return home to face a Warriors team that has been dreadful on the road this year, and will be without Steph Curry. Then, the lowly Bulls come to town before what could be a marquee matchup against the 76ers on Christmas Day.
Knicks fans are having fun, but Thibodeau is making sure his team is all about business, particularly the business that is right in front of them.
"Each day, take it day by day, don't skip over things, you don't look back," Thibodeau said. "It doesn't work like that. Usually, when you start feeling too good about yourself is when you get knocked on your butt."
