The Knicks burned their last timeout with less than a minute to go in regulation during Monday night's overtime loss to the Thunder, because head coach Tom Thibodeau thought the team still had a challenge to use.
But Thibodeau forgot the team had used its challenge less than 30 seconds earlier, so its timeout with 40 seconds to go became a waste, and Thibodeau was unable to challenge a foul call on Quentin Grimes.
"That was my fault right there," Thibodeau said after the game. "I screwed that up."
Because of the mishap, the Knicks didn't have a timeout to use on their last possession of regulation, leaving the team unable to set up a final play to try and avoid overtime.
Of course, New York had plenty of other chances to grab a much-needed win, but instead shot just 9-for-30 down the stretch. But it would have helped to have that final timeout, and instead, the Knicks continue to slide down the Eastern Conference standings.
"I just lost my train of thought for a second," Thibodeau said. "So that was my fault."
