Questions of Tom Thibodeau's job security have begun to swirl after the Knicks' latest collapse, this time a loss to the Nets' B-squad after leading by as many as 28 points on Wednesday night.
According to SNY's Ian Begley, some of those questions are coming from the team's front office, specifically executive vice president William Wesley.
Per Begley, Wesley has placed at least part of the blame for the team's struggles on Thibodeau in recent conversations with owner James Dolan, potentially setting up the reigning Coach of the Year to take the fall for what has been a disappointing season.
Thibodeau has faced his share of criticism this season, for his rotations and his refusal to play New York's younger players significant minutes, particularly Obi Toppin and Cam Reddish. The Knicks traded for Reddish, but he hasn't seen much playing time, and Thibodeau reportedly never wanted the deal to happen in the first place.
Wesley, who hired Thibodeau along with Leon Rose in 2020, has reportedly said Thibodeau's coaching has been a "significant factor" in the team's recent struggles, having lost 12 of the last 15 and coughed up 20-point leads three times in the last week and a half.
Thibodeau made Wesley and company look like geniuses last year, leading New York to a surprise playoff appearance, but it appears that relationship could be souring quickly with each passing loss.
