McMonigle believes Juan Soto made 'mistake' choosing Mets over Yankees

Juan Soto is set to be officially introduced by the Mets on Thursday afternoon, and Chris McMonigle maintains that the former Yankee made a "mistake" by choosing Queens over the Bronx.

Noting that the Yanks were just in the World Series, are consistently in the playoffs, and currently play in an easier American League, C-Mac says Soto would have been better off taking the deal from the Yankees, where he still would have made a boatload of money.

"I don't believe that the Mets future is so much brighter than the Yankees," C-Mac said. "I still think there's value to being the Yankees, and the idea that they haven't been a losing team in 30 years. Despite how much Steve Cohen is willing to spend and their farm system is a little deeper, I still think the Yankees are a more surefire bet because they have proven it over the course of a quarter of a century.

"The idea that the Mets were having all the fun and the Yankees had no fun, it's stupid."

The Yanks had plenty of fun in 2024 as well, making the Fall Classic while Soto seemed to form tight bonds with the likes of Gleyber Torres and Aaron Judge. C-Mac believes it came down to finances, and the belief that Soto could make even more money with a rich and financially savvy owner like Steve Cohen on his side. But, from a baseball standpoint, C-Mac believes it was the wrong move.

"He picked the owner and his money," C-Mac said.

"I think it was a mistake. We'll see."
