Knicks fever has reached Queens as they continue their quest to reach their first NBA Finals in 26 years.
The Mets have bought in on the basketball team that has captivated the city during this playoff run, as Citi Field broke out a Jalen Brunson 3-point celebration cam during a break in the action of Monday’s game against the White Sox.
Just as several MLB teams use various creative camera ideas to pan around the stadium and capture fans in some capacity, whether it be a karaoke cam or a kiss cam, the Mets showed fans on the big screen beyond the center field wall doing Brunson’s trademark gesture when he hits a triple, holds his hand in front of his face, and gives a three-finger salute.
Fans all over the ballpark paid tribute to the Knicks captain, just hours after Brunson’s Knicks pulled off a stunning third 20-point comeback in the NBA playoffs, this time to keep their season alive and avoid a 3-0 hole in the conference finals.
Days before, when the Mets were in a rain delay, the team put the Knicks game on the big screen out in center field, so fans could cheer on their basketball team until the tarp came off the field.
