Brandon Tierney profoundly declared on Tuesday's show that right now, the Yankees boast a better starting rotation than the Mets.
And he came armed with stats to back it up.
"Who's starting the American League All-Star Game if it happened tonight? It's Nestor Cortes," Tierney said.
"As good as [Carlos] Carrasco has been in certain spots this year, Jordan Montgomery has an ERA below 3.00. [Taijuan] Walker is not good, and Jameson Taillon is, he also has a sub-3.00 ERA."
Mets fans unsurprisingly pushed back on that declaration, but Tierney is standing by his take.
"You can tweet away, you can do your little Mets rage, these are just facts," Tierney said. "Numbers that are substantiated by things you can look up. This is not rhetoric, this is not a hot take…this is a reaction to where we are right now, without Jacob deGrom, the New York Yankees pitching staff is better than the New York Mets."
Tiki challenged his co-host by bringing up the pedigree of the Mets rotation, which is still incomplete without deGrom.
"You are living in the past, my man," Tierney said. "I am not saying that it's not close, it obviously is. I'm not saying once deGrom comes back, it doesn't change dramatically in favor of the Mets. Three weeks ago, it was the Mets. As of this morning, it is the New York Yankees.
"This season, right now, pertains to today, and hopefully tomorrow. Scherzer, absolute beast. Gerrit Cole his last three starts? Good, if not better."
This certainly will stir up quite the debate between Mets and Yankees fans.
