El Presidente of Los Mets?

On Monday, it came to light that billionaire Glaceau co-founder Mike Repole has joined Alex Rodriguez and Jennifer Lopez’s bid to buy the Mets, and shortly thereafter, Barstool Sports founder Dave Portnoy Tweeted a cryptic message that suggests he may be part of that package as well.

An anonymous source has asked me if I’d like to be involved with an anonymous professional sports team if they anonymously buy the franchise. I wouldn’t have to relocate. Need to consider

Portnoy later Tweeted “no comment” on a retweet of a New York Post story about the possibility, but it’s not implausible that he could be involved. Portnoy is “good friends” (his quote in a Tweet) with Repole, whom he once teamed up with for a web series based off of the “Shark Tank” premise, and he is a partner of A-Rod’s, with the retired slugger having hosted a business podcast on the Barstool network alongside Stool staple Dan “Big Cat” Katz.

Portnoy also has had at least one interaction with the Wilpons – last year, he shared a photo on Twitter of himself and Mets COO Jeff Wilpon at a University of Michigan football game (Portnoy and Fred Wilpon are both Michigan alumni).

Portnoy is reportedly worth $100 million, and Barstool was valued at $450 million when Penn National Gaming purchased a 36 percent stake in the company for $163 million in January.
