While Billy Eppler was able to finally talk about the Justin Verlander signing at the Winter Meetings on Wednesday, he remained tight-lipped about the Mets' potential interest in another rotation arm.
Asked about the team's involvement in Kodai Senga, the star Japanese righty, Eppler didn't have much to disclose.
"Senga is a very talented pitcher," Eppler said.
Asked if he could provide any more thoughts on Senga, Eppler gave exactly one more word.
"Very, very talented pitcher," Eppler said with a smile.
Senga reportedly has multiple interested teams that are willing to offer as much as a five-year deal, and with the Mets seemingly in need of another rotation arm, even after adding Verlander and Jose Quintana, New York seems like an obvious fit.
Even manager Buck Showalter raved about Senga, but Eppler still wouldn't take the bait.
"He did? That was nice of Buck," Eppler said.
