Boomer 'a little disgusted' with how Mets looked in series opener
The Mets fell flat in their 5-1 loss to the Braves on Tuesday, kicking off a critical three-game series with a dud that brought back painful memories of past failures, most recently being swept in Atlanta in 2022 to lose the NL East.
Gio doesn't want to suggest that this team is doomed for the same fate, but he admittedly finds it hard to avoid drawing similarities after the performance he saw from the Mets on Tuesday.
"I'm trying not to make these comparisons," Gio said. "But it's really hard not to."
The Mets have proven all season that they can battle back from adversity and turn things around, so there is no reason why they can't bounce back and take the next two games to put the Braves away. But going off the first game, Boomer couldn't help but be disappointed in the effort.
"I'm a little disgusted with the way the Mets played last night," Boomer said. "This was like a typical Mets loss in Atlanta. Bonehead plays in the field, plays that should have been made in the field that were not made. That tells me that there were nerves.
"When you're locked in, you play clean baseball, and they didn't play clean baseball. That was a frustrating performance. I know they weren't hitting…but it's just the dopey defensive stuff."
