Boomer and Gio had a hard time tracking down Keith Hernandez for his scheduled interview on Tuesday morning.

The two called coffee shops “all over Sag Harbor,” wondering if Keith had been in that morning, then tried the American Hotel, and even tried a welfare check.

Finally, Keith called in, having just woken up.

“I must have my ringer turned off on my phone,” a drowsy Hernandez said. “The phone didn’t ring. It was a ground line you called, and it didn’t ring…I just woke up.”

Once the conversation switched to the Mets, Hernandez said that even he is starting to come to the realization that the turnaround isn’t going to happen for the 2023 Mets after dropping a weekend series to the Red Sox.

“They just didn’t really show up,” Hernandez said. “You’re waiting for them to get it going, and it just hasn’t happened. I’m always the eternal optimist, and I do think there’s a lot of talent on this team, but it just hasn’t come around yet, and I don’t know if it will know.

“This is the first time I’ve become a little doubtful.”
