The Mets hit a new bottom on Tuesday night, falling to the lowly Reds and sinking further beneath the .500 mark.
But not to worry, as Boomer had a silver lining coming from outside Mets Land.
“By the way,” Boomer said. “Carlos Correa is being booed in Minnesota as we speak.”
Indeed, Correa heard boos from his own home crowd on Tuesday after striking out against the Padres to drop his season average to .185. Correa, after signing a six-year, $200 million deal this past offseason, is carrying a lowly .624 OPS, and Gio wonders if the Mets actually avoided disaster by backing out of their $300 million offer.
“To this point, it feels like a bullet that was dodged,” Gio said. “Can you imagine you spent the money on him and luxury tax was even higher and the payroll was higher and then this team was even worse?”
Correa’s current performance would likely have only made the current Mets’ predicament even more frustrating, though his career numbers suggest that he will bounce back at some point.
