Boomer & Gio not surprised at all with Mets bounceback in game two

The Mets put Sunday’s game one blowout loss in the rearview right away, and jumped out to a 6-0 lead in the second inning of game two to take back momentum and home field advantage in the NLCS.

None of it was a surprise to Gio, including some of the bad from Monday’s win, as Edwin Diaz pitched himself into immediate trouble in the ninth inning before settling down to lock up the 7-3 victory.

“Of course the Mets answered back right away,” Gio said.

“That was the 2024 Mets right there. Come off a loss where they got smacked around, and boom. Right out of the gate, Lindor, we’re not dead, they build up a big lead, and of course it comes down to Edwin Diaz and we’re all screaming and yelling and pulling our hair out. But they get the job done.”

In years past, Gio may have expected the worst to come for the Mets. But this group has proven time and time again that I will get off the mat and battle back, which is just what they did in game two. New York has made such a habit out of their expressions of resilience that Gio was expecting nothing less than what he saw on Monday.

“That’s the type of team that it is,” Gio said. “It just felt like that.”

Boomer, who called game two a must win, felt the same way, and it was hardly a surprise to see the Mets blast off with a leadoff home run by Francisco Lindor and a grand slam by Mark Vientos to send the team on its way back to Queens with the series tied.

“This is the DNA of this baseball team,” Boomer said. “To have Lindor lead off with a home run was incredible.”
