Like the Yankees, the Mets have a rotation battle and a couple of big bullpen holes to fill due to injury – but unlike the Yankees, there was no more battle about a top prospect breaking camp when Brett Baty, Francisco Alvarez, and Mark Vientos were all optioned to Triple-A.
The lineup looks pretty much the same as it did last year, only with a new starting catcher, and while the Mets have added Justin Verlander, they lost Jacob deGrom and replaced a veteran with an unknown in the rotation.
So, even on the heels of a 101-win season with a very similar team (albeit with one big missing piece in Edwin Diaz), are those Mets fans who aren't exactly super positive as opening day approaches right to feel that doom and gloom – or should the 7 Line Army be optimistic as things start anew?
Boomer & Gio had a little discussion on that Monday morning now that the roster looks set, and some callers also weighed in. Take a listen!
