Boomer & Gio: Time to think about blowing up Mets?
The Mets were clobbered by the Phillies on Wednesday night, dropping to four games below .500 as the offense continues to struggle to put up runs.
Boomer and Gio agree that the discussion should only get louder about potentially being sellers at the trade deadline.
"You gotta wonder about the inner core of the team," Boomer said. "We are in the midst of a really weird spot for the Mets…if they're gonna continue to play this way, and these players aren't going to be able to come up in these big spots, they are gonna have to make decisions around the trade deadline. To me, they're gonna have to trade [Pete Alonso] if it keeps going this way."
Gio believes there will be plenty of players on the trading block if the Mets continue to struggle, and if things don't improve by July, only the likes of Francisco Lindor and Brandon Nimmo will likely be safe from potential trades.
"Starling Marte, Jeff McNeil…Edwin Diaz. These are other guys that you would not expect to be around if this thing goes south," Gio said.
"They didn't bring in David Stearns to just brush some dust off this roster. They brought him in to completely overhaul it and be a consistent winner…do you still consider Pete Alonso a pillar?"
