After watching Starling Marte bounce into an inning-ending double play in the seventh before striking out on three pitches to end the game in the ninth, Boomer can’t help but feel like Marte is one of multiple Mets players who looked like they mailed it in.
“It’s almost like, and I know they’re trying, but they strike out swinging at bad pitches down in the ninth inning down a run, it’s like they’ve given up,” Boomer said. “They go up there like, ‘There’s no way we can win this game.’”
The Mets continue to find new ways to lose, this time loading the bases down by a run before Marte struck out on three pitches, prompting loud boos from the home crowd. Simply put, the scene in Queens of late is flat-out ugly.
“That is such a bad look and such a bad feel,” Boomer said. “Those are two pronounced moments for one guy to make a big difference, and he didn’t come through either time.”
