Boomer explains why postponements are a win for Mets

The Mets will not play the rest of their pivotal series against the Braves until Monday, as Wednesday and Thursday’s games have been postponed.

The rescheduling complicates things for both teams, particularly the Mets, who now have to leave town for Milwaukee on Wednesday, play a three-game set over the weekend, and go back to Atlanta for a doubleheader the next day for a chance to play in the Wild Card Series a day later.

Despite the added travel, Boomer believes it could be a good thing for New York to have this new, hectic schedule.

“I’m actually kind of happy they’re out of Atlanta right now,” Boomer said. “Watching that first game and the brain cramp meltdowns they had...get them out of Atlanta.

“You gotta know how to play and understand that you can’t be missing cutoff guys. You have to field grounders and come up with big hits. I feel like that was how every game has been in Atlanta for the last 20 years.”

Boomer has plenty of travel experience from his NFL playing days, and while it’s not the same as baseball, where games are played every day, he doesn’t see it being a problem for the Mets. In fact, it could wind up helping them.

“I think they get a couple days off after a bad game in Atlanta...I would just say get out of there, forget that game, get a couple days off, and get Lindor back against Milwaukee,” Boomer said.

“When you go back down for that doubleheader, maybe you just have to split and you’re in.”
