Boomer: Give David Stearns credit for building Mets into 'appointment television'

Boomer and Gio opened Thursday's show by discussing the red-hot Mets, who won their seventh in a row after sweeping the Red Sox on Wednesday night.

While New York is still 0.5 games back of a playoff spot due to the Braves continuing to play solid baseball, Boomer says this group, particularly its leadership, needs to be celebrated for putting together a roster that has found itself and put itself in the thick of a postseason race.

"You gotta give David Stearns a lot of credit here for what he's done and how it's turned out," Boomer said. "The pitching staff and some of the additions he has made this year, and the impact some of these players have had.

"Yesterday was a Winker day. every now and then you're gonna get a Winker day. Every now and then you're gonna get an Iglesias day. and what you're gonna get is top-end, quality starting pitching, which is what we've been getting for the last two months."

Jesse Winker, one of Stearns' main trade deadline additions, blasted a grand slam on Wednesday, while pitching additions like Sean Manaea and Luis Severino continue to lead a productive starting rotation. Meanwhile, the bullpen has looked improved after deadline additions, as Stearns has pushed the right buttons in his first year with the organization. Not to mention the hiring of Carlos Mendoza, a first-year skipper who has a legit case for Manager of the Year with his Mets streaking towards October.

"It's appointment television," Boomer said. "You have to watch it. You have to see it."
