Jerry Seinfeld has a bone to pick with the Mets hyping up Timmy Trumpet for Edwin Diaz's entrances from the bullpen, worried that it's giving the team "bad mojo" because it is celebrating "in season" when the team hasn't won anything yet.
Boomer agrees with the celebrity superfan.
"I kind of think that Jerry's right in this case," Boomer said. "We tend to give these nicknames to our pitchers, we kind of make a singular moment…I do believe there's something about Timmy Trumpet showing up and doing his thing and Diaz coming in and shutting down the Dodgers. It was a whole thing.
"Thank you, Jerry Seinfeld. I think you should be a talk show host."
Boomer has never been the biggest fan of the Timmy Trumpet craze, whose song has gone viral multiple times thanks to Diaz entering games in save situations, and Boomer thinks it's the latest in a line of "cheesy" gestures from the franchise that can jinx a special season.
"The Mets have these cheesy things they do, and Timmy Trumpet is one of them," Boomer said. "We do that. As an organization, we do this. We do a lot of things right now all of a sudden. The Tom Seaver statue, retiring Willie Mays' number…all of that stuff is great. The Old Timers' Day is awesome, but the Timmy Trumpet thing, Jerry Seinfeld's got a point. That's touching the money."
