As the Mets once again find themselves reworking the front office after the resignation of Billy Eppler, Boomer says it is reminding him of the Knicks when they were going through a revolving door of front office executives, such as Phil Jackson, Steve Mills, and others.
“This is reminiscent of some of the Knicks disasters of the last 20 years,” Boomer said. “Some of the people that here hired, fired, replaced, brought in, and brought in again. We know Jim Dolan will spend as much money as humanly possible to try and being a championship to New York, but for some reason, he hasn’t been able to do that.
“I feel like that’s where the Mets are right now. They’re in that Knicks abyss that they were in for so long, where they just kept hiring and firing people that were running the organization.”
The Knicks just let go of their GM in Scott Perry at the end of last season, but the leadership group around Leon Rose seems to be set, and New York is coming off of its first playoff series win in 10 years. Perhaps the Mets could be on their way to some stability as well with David Stearns.
“Maybe the Knicks have stabilized now,” Boomer said. “Maybe this David Stearns character is going to stabilize the Mets. That’s what you have to hope for if you’re a Met fan.”
