As the Mets head to the Bronx to begin the next installment of the Subway Series on Tuesday night, Boomer says New York fans will be watching an irrelevant team.
"The Mets are just fading off into $350 million of irrelevancy," Boomer said.
The Mets and their record payroll are well behind in the Wild Card race, with several teams ahead of them for the final playoff spot, and as reality sets in that a playoff push is unlikely, Boomer says fans seem to be tuning out and looking ahead to football season.
"That's the danger of the sports around here and the organizations," Boomer said. "There are teams that re completely irrelevant, and when you get to that point, it's just like throwing money out the window, and that's just where the Mets are. They're irrelevant. Nobody cares.
"Nobody mentions the Mets. Nobody cares. Not anymore."
