Boomer's 'simple' Mets solution: Sign Juan Soto, let Pete Alonso walk, shift Mark Vientos

Juan Soto didn’t give much when asked about his uncertain future before Monday’s Home Run Derby, pointing to his focus on winning with the Yankees in 2024, and nothing else right now.

Boomer, speaking from a Mets fan perspective, says there is a clear path to Soto playing in Queens next season.

“Mark Vientos goes to first base, sign Juan Soto, who goes to right field, and Pete is gone,” Boomer said. “That’s pretty much the simplest thing you can do. You’re not gonna pay two guys enormous money.”

Boomer doesn’t see Steve Cohen paying both Soto and Alonso, and since Soto is younger and more well-rounded as a hitter,” he could see the Mets owner prioritizing the outfielder in free agency.

“You have Lindor already over $30 million,” Boomer said. “Pete is gonna want over $30 million, and Soto is gonna want $45-50 million.”

But why not both? Jerry Recco says it’s something the richest owner in the league could afford without much trouble, if he really wanted to.

“The Dodgers do. The Mets can,” Jerry said. “I’m not saying they will, but the blueprint is out there.”
