Brandon Nimmo is reportedly on track to be ready to go for Opening Day.
According to Anthony DiComo of MLB.com, the Mets outfielder had “a full work day” on Tuesday, which included fielding, hitting, and running, and is hoping to play in New York’s final two spring training games this weekend.
Should Nimmo accomplish that goal, the two spring training games would likely be a suitable tune-up before the season opener next Thursday.
Nimmo sprained his right knee and ankle on an awkward slide during spring training action on Friday. He limped off the field and did not return to the game, but the injury diagnosis wasn’t severe, a sense of relief for a Mets team that had lost Edwin Diaz for the season just days before.
