Breaking: Jacob deGrom scratched due to 'right side tightness'

Things haven't been going well for the Mets as of late, sitting at 11-12 with extended offensive slumps, but the pitching outlook took a blow on Tuesday.

Jacob deGrom, off to a historic start this season, was a late scratch from his scheduled start on Tuesday due to "right side tightness," and will be replaced by reliever Miguel Castro.

The Mets were expected to address it later on Tuesday, per Jeff Passan. Fortunately, Passan reported that it isn't believed to be a serious injury, and deGrom hopes to make his next start.

The tightness began a couple days ago, and the Mets limited his workload in response, but after it wasn't feeling better on Tuesday morning, they made the decision to skip his start.

The team is awaiting test results, and Jordan Yamamoto will be heading to St. Louis to help the shorthanded pitching staff.

deGrom has been sensational on the mound this season, becoming the first player in history to begin their season with 50 strikeouts. He tied a career-high with 14 strikeouts on April 10, tied that mark again a week later and surpassed it the following start with 15 in a complete game shutout. He's allowed just two runs in 35 innings, good for a 0.51 ERA.
