Brett Baty couldn't have drawn up a much better script for his first big-league game.
The hyped Mets prospect homered in his first at-bat, with his family in attendance, in a big Mets win over the Braves in Atlanta.
"I was just up there looking for a pitch to drive and had some fun with it," Baty said. "That's a great way to start the career for sure."
Baty showed some love to his family in the stands as he rounded the bases on a home run he will never forget.
"Just pure joy," Baty said. "Just to be able to help this ballclub out on my first at-bat, and just to look up and see my family up there, just to be able to celebrate it with them. Just pure joy, for sure.
"They caught he first flight out they could form Austin last night, and I'm just glad they were able to experience my first game in the major leagues."
Baty felt his first realization that he was a big leaguer came before the home run, when he took the field for the first time. But the home run was a realization to everyone else that he had arrived.
"When I got out to third base," Baty said. "I kind of took a look around and thought 'Man, I made it.'"
