Brett Baty says this promotion to Mets is 'going to be a lot different'

Brett Baty made an immediate impact for the Mets in his first game after being called up to the majors, lacing an RBI single in an 8-6 win in New York's series opener over the Dodgers.

For Baty, who destroyed Triple-A to start the season, the hyped prospect is coming into this big-league stint feeling a lot more confident than he was after being promoted last season, when he made his MLB debut.

"Yeah, I think this time it's going to be a lot different just because I know exactly what to expect now," Baty said. "I got a little taste last year. Everything, everything about the day and everything like that I'm comfortable with now. The guys, I've been around them for a couple years now. So there's just a little bit more comfort to it and I feel good right now."

Baty logged just seven hits in 38 at-bats last season, though he did blast a pair of home runs, and came into 2023 impressing in spring training and continuing to take off in the minors, as fans clamored for his promotion while Eduardo Escobar struggled. But Baty kept his focus on his current surroundings, and now, those surroundings are back in the bigs, as Baty looks to stay for good this time.

"I'm gonna be honest with you, it was really not on my mind," Baty said of the noise surrounding his potential promotion. "I try to be as present as possible wherever I am and just take it pitch to pitch and day by day. I was playing well but now it's a new test to tackle. So I'm just going to come up here and try to continue and put together good ABs and play good defense for the team."
