Daniel Vogelbach was recently projected to make $2.6 million in arbitration by MLB Trade Rumors, but neither BT or Sal care how cheap it would be for the Mets to retain him. They both want him gone.
"Is there any counter to not bringing him back?" BT said. "You can't keep him because he's not good at baseball. The money doesn't matter."
Vogelbach came on strong at the end of the season, but the first four-plus months of the season were dreadful, as the Mets even gave him a break to try and reset during the year. If Vogelbach returns in 2024, it's safe to say Sal would not be happy.
"Daniel Vogelbach is the only player in Major League Baseball history who doesn't use a glove or a bat," Sal said. "He stands up there and hopes he walks…he does use the bat, on occasion, but for the most part, he stands up there, and doesn't swing the bat.
"He can't be back. My concern is that David Stearns likes him…but Vogelbach is symbolic of failure. Seriously, he's not a baseball player. I don't care what his on-base percentage is, or what his WAR is, he's not a ballplayer. You can't tell me the Mets wouldn't be better off using that roster spot on somebody who can actually play baseball."
