BT: Francisco Lindor needs to consider batting righty full time
Francisco Lindor finally broke through on Sunday, breaking from his brutal early-season slump to crank a double and a home run to lead the Mets to victory over the Reds.
The hits came against Cincinnati lefty Andrew Abbott, continuing a trend where Lindor holds a career OPS 40 points higher against southpaws than he does against righties. Last year, the difference was even more staggering, as Lindor posted a .916 OPS when hitting righty as compared to .758 batting lefty.
BT says it is a reason to consider a "radical" adjustment where Lindor stops being a switch hitter.
"Francisco Lindor is a below-average lefty hitter…he is discernably better as a righty," BT said. "I'm not saying it's easy, and I'm not even saying do it tonight. I'm saying, put it on the table.
"Just stop trying to hit lefty. Become a full-time righty. He is not a good right-handed hitter at all."
Despite logging 279 more plate appearances from the left side last year, Lindor still hit more home runs as a righty in 2023 (16 bombs righty compared to 15 lefty). BT says Lindor would be better off trying out facing righties from the righty batter's box, and fully focus on being a righty.
"He's pretty bad as a lefty…he's terrible as a lefty," BT said. "There is a massive drop. He is a horrendous left-handed hitter."
