BT wasn't high on the Mets chances in 2024 before Thursday's news of Kodai Senga's shoulder strain, and now that their ace will likely start the season on the shelf, his prospects for the Amazins are even lower.
He is getting the same sense from the fanbase as well.
"I don't know a single Mets fans that is truly enthused about the prospects of the season. I don't know one," BT said. "It feels like there's no hope going into the season for the Mets.
"I'd feel a little better about this is I felt the Mets had a lineup that could win games by out-slugging people. I don't think that's the case."
Keith has been trying to hype up the Mets as a team poised to surprise in 2024, but with Senga now out for an undisclosed amount of time, and with David Stearns saying that there likely won't be an external reinforcement on the way, it's hard to maintain that optimism.
"Your rotation was already weak. Now it's further weakened in the first week of camp," Keith said. "Your fanbase is gonna show up to Port St. Lucie like 'Hey, come on, who is throwing the ball?'
"It's déjà vu. It's on brand."
