BT: 'It's a wrap' on Mets season if they can't beat Marlins, which would be a good thing

The Mets dropped their series opener against the Marlins on Tuesday night, and have two more against lowly Miami this week before hosting the Padres.

BT believes a series loss to a team like the Marlins would mean it's officially time to turn attention towards the trade deadline and selling off pieces in Queens, because if this team can't win a home series against one of the worst teams in baseball, then it's time to wave the white flag on the 2024 season.

"If you don't win a couple games here, it's a wrap," BT said. "In a lot of ways, I think it's probably good that you lose a few. Even though it would stretch out the season if you win a couple…but if you don't, if you get swept, it's just gotta be a real message to ownership."

BT respects Steve Cohen for continuing to express belief and expectation in this Mets team competing for a Wild Card spot, but if they can't beat the Marlins, even if they are only a few games back of the final Wild Card spot, then it's time to admit defeat.

"If you can't beat them at home, there's just nothing to talk about," BT said. "It's a wrap."
