BT lists reasons why Mets would be better off trading Pete Alonso

BT wants to make it clear, he doesn't believe Pete Alonso should be traded because of anything related to his presence in the Mets clubhouse.

Still, he says there are multiple reasons why trading him makes the most sense for the team, and it relates to Alonso as a player, as a "box office" draw, and as the Mets relative to their expected window of contention.

"I don't believe he is going to age well," BT said. "The high-priced contracts for a right-handed fielding first baseman and hitter, that is a dinosaur move in Major League Baseball, or approach. Nobody is really doing that anymore.

"As he fades physically…as his power is chipped away and he isn't quite what he was, that's when I think, if the Mets get their pitching in order, they should be in position to win a World Series. They are nowhere near the Braves…it's not about Pete the person. It's about Pete the player."

Aside from the potential decline that BT sees for Alonso, he also doesn't believe a mega contract would justify itself in marketability like Aaron Judge will for the Yankees.

"He's not box office," BT said. "I know there are a lot of Alonso jerseys, I get it. Are you trying to tell me the percentage of Mets fans at Citi to watch a bad team are more than the percentage of Judge fans in the Bronx to watch a bad Yankee team? He just doesn't generate that sort of box office pop."
