BT on why the Mets would be 'doing the right thing' to entertain Pete Alonso trade talks

The Mets reportedly received a "significant push" from the Brewers to acquire Pete Alonso at the trade deadline, a potential reality that both BT and Sal have broached for weeks when it comes to New York's prolific power hitter.

Regardless of how much the Mets may have entertained those trade talks, BT says it would be negligent to not at least be open minded about a potential blockbuster deal that would replenish the farm system.

"The sensible side to me tells me, the Mets are doing the right thing," BT said.

"It's a compliment to Pete Alonso. If he wasn't an asset, nobody would be calling and kicking the tires. That's a compliment to Pete. He's one of the great home run hitters of the last 25 years."

BT has been on the record saying that the Mets would be better off trading Alonso to stock the farm and prepare for their anticipated window of contention in 2025 or 2026, and shutting down communication between teams and not hearing potential packages they could receive in return would be a detriment to the franchise.

"It would be utterly irresponsible not to engage on some level," BT said. "If teams are calling you about your greatest asset, and you're not emotionless enough to jump into this pragmatically, to make your team what you want it to be, then you're a bad franchise. And I don't think the Mets are a bad franchise."
