Amid reports of feuds between manager and general manager, and the team's homegrown star hiring BorasCorp to prepare for free agency, BT says the honeymoon phase with the Mets owner is officially over.
"Reality check. The bloom is off the rose for the Steve Cohen era," BT said. "I understand the guy has a ton of money. But we need to re-evaluate. I know he has a ton of money…but what exactly has he done well? When he got here in 2020, he dropped a 3-5 year window on winning the World Series. They're not even close. They don't even have a rotation right now…they just won 75 games.
"He's hired four general managers…none of them have been particularly good. He allowed his borderline Hall of fame manager to be handcuffed by his general manager…by stuffing a basic scrub down his throat and forcing him to play Vogelbach."
BT was excited for the Mets when Cohen and is exorbitant wealth came to Queens in the wake of the Wilpon era, but years after the fact, he is having trouble seeing the hope that things are still trending in the right direction.
"His two biggest free agent imports were bombed, and were both shipped out…that was a colossal fail, both ends," BT said. "The Lindor contract, I know he had a really good year, not good. They very well might butcher the Pete Alonso stuff, not good. I think the [Brandon] Nimmo contract is ridiculous. They embarrassed Buck Showalter after two years.
"When he came over, I was like, 'This rocket is going to the moon. It's go time. They're obviously going backwards…and next year is year five. How is this working?"
