BT praises Mets for 'resisting temptation to appease the fans,' sticking with long-term plan

BT is not high on the Mets in 2024, as he doesn't expect them to be a playoff team, nor a team that will win even 80 games. But he does see the vision for long-term success, which is why he applauds David Stearns and company for seeing it through while ignoring the outside noise.

"To hire Stearns and not let him do his job would be dumb," BT said. "I get the frustration. I think, in the long run, this is gonna pay off for you guys.

"They're resisting the temptation to appease you and appease the fans…I honestly commend the Mets. The Mets are doing the hardest thing to do, especially in this city. They are tuning out the noise and the agitation from the fans, and they are moving forward with their plan."

Sal wondered why the Mets couldn't sign proven players to short-term deals to keep the team competitive in 2024 without sacrificing the long-term plan, but BT says this method will allow the team to get a better look at its young core to get a clearer idea of its needs moving forward.

"Before the end of the season, you will have an answer on Vientos and Baty," BT said. "You will get the intel that you need to move forward with intelligent decisions."
