Brandon Tierney says the Mets' sudden elimination has made them the biggest disappointment that New York sports has ever seen, at least in his lifetime.
Yes, even more so than the 2004 Yankees historically collapsing in the 2004 ALCS and ending the Curse of the Bambino.
"When you look at everything that transpired this season, it is the most disappointing season in my lifetime of the New York season," BT said.
"Before you call and tweet and tell me 'what about the Yankees in 2004?' here's why it's different: the Yankees had a small treasure chest of championships, not that you ever want to lose to the Red Sox…trust me, I was gutted. That was brutal. But the Yankee fans at least were given great pleasure for a long time."
So, after the 2022 Mets carried such high hopes for an entire summer, and seemed to be the group destined to end years, decades, of heartbreak in Queens, ending in a Wild Card Series loss just after losing a 10.5 game lead in the division means you are now seen as one of the biggest letdowns the Big Apple has ever seen.
It also means this team that so many Mets fans fell in love with this summer won't look the same again.
"I know Mets fans don't want my pity, and this is not pity, but you guys deserved better," BT said. "You needed your general manager to get some guys that can actually hit, like the team that just beat you, and also the team in Atlanta, and he didn't do it.
"I'm not saying Cohen's not spending money. He might even give Judge $600 million now, but you know what? This Mets team that you loved…this team will never look the same again. totally different roster. Could be better, but a totally different feel. It could be worse. This was their season to do something."
